Fifty-seven engraved wood blocks and the unique example of the book printed on Japanese papere and accompanied by the original, signed drawings by Sylvain Sauvage. Two sets of illustrations printed in color on Holland paper and two sets printed in black and white on Chinese paper accompany the book.

In 1893 French writer Anatole France first published his sketches of life in 18th century France, La Rot̂isserie de la reine pédauque, and it quickly became a popular text for illustrators. In 1935 Editions du Nord of Brussels published an illustrated edition as number 21 in the series Les glories litteŕaires. Sylvain Sauvage was a prolific illustrator of French texts.
